Actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, known for her roles in "Coronation Street," "Broadchurch," and "Happy Valley," has revealed that she found motherhood to be a significant struggle. In a recent interview with Good Housekeeping, the 56-year-old star discussed the difficulties of balancing her career with raising her two daughters, Martha, 25, and Lyss, 21, whom she shares with her husband, writer Ian Kershaw.
"I found a lot of motherhood a struggle," Hesmondhalgh admitted. "Balancing my own life and work with motherhood was tricky at times. I have a lot of regrets about losing my rag with my kids. I took things too personally; I felt like they were almost trying to make my life difficult, which obviously they weren’t. They were just children."
Hesmondhalgh recently gained new attention for her appearance on the BBC series "Celebrity Traitors." Describing her enthusiasm for the show, she said, "I couldn’t say no! I’m obsessed with it. I watch every iteration... I was so chuffed to be asked."
She noted that the unique environment of the show fostered unexpected friendships. "The extraordinary thing is that you’re all on the same footing. There’s no status at all," she explained. "You have these accelerated friendships because there’s a lot of time off-camera when you’re travelling in cars together and aren’t allowed to discuss the game. People tell you about their lives; I found out so much about people and I was really touched that they trusted me."
During her time on "Celebrity Traitors," Hesmondhalgh endeared herself to viewers and fellow contestants with her apparent starstruck demeanor. She was seen expressing admiration for co-stars like singer James Blunt and actress Myha'la, stating her fandom for their work. Despite the positive reception from fans, Hesmondhalgh was the third contestant to be banished from the show, with fellow celebrities suspecting her of being a Traitor.
