Julian Assange and Wife Stella Announce Third Pregnancy
WikiLeaks founder and his wife revealed they are expecting another child, celebrating his freedom after years of legal battles.
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and his wife, Stella Assange, have announced they are expecting their third child. Stella Assange shared the news on social media Monday, accompanied by a photograph of the couple.
"HAPPY NEWS! This new life would not have been possible without all those who fought to bring [Julian Assange] home," she stated.
Julian Assange, 55, also shared the announcement, noting, "October surprise. This new life is thanks to everyone who fought for my freedom."
The couple, who already have two children, Gabriel and Max, have maintained a low public profile since Assange was released from prison in June 2024. He had faced potential sentencing of 175 years in jail before pleading guilty to one count of breaching the Espionage Act, which allowed him to return to his native Australia.
Just over a week prior to the pregnancy announcement, Assange returned to social media with a post on WikiLeaks' and his personal accounts, writing, "I'm back."
A plea deal with American prosecutors facilitated Assange's return to Australia in 2024, ending 14 years as a wanted criminal suspect without fear of arrest. He had been sought by the U.S. since 2010 after WikiLeaks published classified U.S. military documents. Assange had sought asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy in London in June 2012, remaining there for seven years before being removed and subsequently imprisoned in London's HM Belmarsh Prison from April 2019 to June 2024 while the U.S. pursued extradition.
Under the plea agreement, Assange admitted to conspiring to obtain and disclose classified U.S. national defense information. He was released without probation or supervision following a hearing on the Pacific island of Saipan, though he is permanently banned from entering the U.S. without authorization.
Since his release, Assange has made few public appearances. He was seen at the funeral of Pope Francis in the Vatican in April 2025 and shared a photo celebrating his first Christmas in Australia in December 2024.
