Julia Roberts' Husband Daniel Moder Shares Rare Tribute for Her 59th Birthday
Cinematographer Daniel Moder posted a heartfelt message and a throwback photo to celebrate his wife, actress Julia Roberts, on her birthday.
Julia Roberts was celebrated by her husband, cinematographer Daniel Moder, with a rare public declaration of love for her 59th birthday on Wednesday.
Moder, 57, took to social media to share a throwback image of himself and the Oscar-winning actress at a past birthday celebration. In the photo, Roberts is seen in front of a cake with lit candles, while Moder looks at her admiringly and kisses her shoulder.
"celebrating everyday… but October 28 the most. more candles bring more joy. love you so much," Moder captioned the post. Roberts responded in the comments with a series of party and pink heart emojis.
The couple, married for 24 years, first met on the set of the 2001 crime comedy film The Mexican, where Roberts starred opposite Brad Pitt. At the time, Moder was married to makeup artist Vera Steimberg, and Roberts was in a relationship with actor Benjamin Bratt.
Roberts and Bratt separated in 2001, and Moder finalized his divorce in early 2002. Roberts reflected on their initial separation and eventual union in a December 2003 interview with O, The Oprah Magazine, stating, "He sorted his whole thing out, separate and apart from me. And I sorted my life out, separate and apart from him. I think that's the only reason we were able to ultimately fall in love with each other and be together."
Roberts and Moder married on July 4, 2002, at her ranch in Taos, New Mexico. They celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary this past July, with Roberts posting a selfie of the couple in matching sunglasses and writing, "TWENTY FOUR. MORE MORE MORE."
The couple are parents to three children: 21-year-old twins Hazel and Phinnaeus, and 19-year-old son Henry.
In a 2018 appearance on Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop podcast, Roberts spoke about her marriage, calling it "the best decision I ever made in my entire life was to hitch my wagon to Danny Moder." She also told People in November 2015 that Moder is her "favorite person on the planet" and that his work ethic and point of view are very valuable to her when they collaborate on projects.
