Julia Haart Details Alleged 'Torture Chamber' Marriage and $90 Million Legal Battle

Julia Haart, star of the Netflix reality series "My Unorthodox Life," has detailed the alleged torment she experienced during her marriage to Italian businessman Silvio Scaglia, describing it as a "torture chamber" and a $90 million legal battle that lasted 14 years. Haart, who previously fled a Haredi community she characterized as fundamentalist and oppressive to women, found her second marriage to be a source of immense suffering.

Haart stated that she was prepared to endure the marriage for the sake of her ex-husband's ego, referring to it as a "ruse." She claimed that nine months after their wedding, she wanted to end the marriage, but Scaglia allegedly begged her to stay. "My first marriage was a prison... but my second marriage was a torture chamber," Haart said.

For four and a half years, Haart was embroiled in the contentious legal dispute with Scaglia. She asserted that she preferred to keep the legal fight within the court system, suggesting that it was Scaglia who brought their battle into the public eye through the tabloids. Haart also mentioned that she was able to win her case against her ex-husband with the help of female whistleblowers.

Haart's journey began with her escape from the Haredi community, a form of fundamentalism where she felt women were treated as second-class citizens. Her experience in her second marriage, however, brought a new level of distress, which she claims nearly killed her. Only after 14 years, including the lengthy divorce proceedings, did Haart report finally being able to sleep soundly at night. She indicated that this personal struggle is part of a larger narrative that extends beyond her individual experience.
