USC star Juju Watkins returned to the basketball court after a 580-day layoff, showcasing a strong performance in an exhibition game against California on Sunday at the Galen Center. Watkins, who suffered a career-altering torn ACL injury in March 2025, scored 18 points in 23 minutes of play.
During the exhibition, Watkins also recorded three rebounds, two assists, three steals, and two blocks. She shot 6-for-14 from the field and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Her return marks a significant milestone in her recovery journey.
Watkins sustained her injury during the NCAA March Madness tournament in what was the middle of her sophomore season at USC. Prior to the injury, she had been a dominant force, averaging 23.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. Her exceptional performance that season earned her accolades such as AP Player of the Year, the John R. Wooden Award, and the Naismith College Player of the Year. In 2025, she was also named the best college athlete in the country at the ESPY Awards.
Reflecting on her recovery, Watkins previously described the journey as a "whirlwind of emotions" to The California Post. Her return in the exhibition game against California suggests she is on track to reclaim her prominent status in women's college basketball.
The official season for the USC Trojans is set to begin on Monday, November 2, with an away game against UNLV.
