Judith Lucy Shares Injuries Sustained After Combining Alcohol and Sleeping Pills Following Cancer Diagnosis

Australian comedian Judith Lucy has shared details of an accident that resulted in facial injuries, an incident she attributes to consuming alcohol and sleeping pills while trying to cope with her recent breast cancer diagnosis. Lucy, 58, posted on Instagram detailing the event, which occurred nine days after receiving her cancer diagnosis.

She shared a photo of her injuries, which included a cut above her eyebrow and bruising to her face, humorously comparing the appearance to having punched herself. Lucy explained that the incident was a result of combining alcohol and sleeping pills, leading to a fall where she collided with a small table.

Lucy also recounted a comment from her surgeon who, upon removing a bandage, remarked that the injury blended in with other lines on her forehead, to which Lucy quipped that her modeling career was not over. She concluded the post with a sardonic warning: "Obviously the takeaway is don't combine wine and pills… when you have cancer."

This incident follows Lucy's earlier announcement of her breast cancer diagnosis. She had shared a photo from a hospital bed, revealing she would require a mastectomy. In that post, she thanked fans for their support and emphasized the importance of regular mammograms for early detection.

Lucy stated that her cancer was discovered through a routine screening and that without a mammogram, she would have been in a worse situation. She initially anticipated a lumpectomy, but further cancer was found, necessitating the mastectomy. She ultimately decided to undergo a double mastectomy, humorously noting she was ready to embrace a bra-free future after decades of having large breasts.

Doctors have described her cancer as being in a relatively early, non-aggressive stage. Lucy announced her retirement from stand-up comedy in 2022, after a 35-year career, citing a desire to focus on other aspects of her life rather than constant touring.

Days after she got the bad news, Judith was injured after self-medicating. She explained the bruising and cuts were 'the result of combining booze and sleeping pills and then doing the tango with a small table'
