Judge Urges Yankees to Go 'All In' for Championship
Following another playoff disappointment, the star outfielder calls for significant offseason moves.
New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge has called on the team's ownership and front office to "go all in" this offseason to address roster needs and pursue a championship. The plea comes after the Yankees were eliminated from the American League Division Series (ALDS) for the second consecutive year, this time by a division rival.
"We’re the Yankees. I feel like they should go all in and do what they need to do," Judge stated after the Yankees' Game 3 loss to the Rays. "If we’ve got holes, if it’s finding certain players or personnel, whatever we need, you got to go out there and get it. That’s why I signed back here to play with the Yankees is to fight for a championship every single year and to go all in."
Judge, who signed a nine-year, $360 million contract after the 2022 season, expressed his commitment to delivering a championship for the team and the city, expecting the organization to mirror that dedication.
When asked about the front office's current efforts, Judge was diplomatic, acknowledging the realities of team building. "It’s tough to say. I want to trade for everybody, sign everybody every single year, but I know that’s not realistic," he said. "They give us a winning team every single year, but that’s not good enough here in New York. We’re the Yankees. You’ve got to go out there and expect championships and go all in every year. So I’m excited to see what they do."
The Yankees face several key decisions regarding player contracts and roster construction in the upcoming offseason. Several players, including Jazz Chisholm Jr., David Bednar, Trent Grisham, Paul Goldschmidt, and Paul Blackburn, have contracts set to expire. Additionally, the team must consider the remaining years on Giancarlo Stanton's contract and evaluate the development and roles of younger players like Anthony Volpe, Spencer Jones, and Jasson Dominguez, as well as the future of third baseman Ryan McMahon.
