In Provo, Utah, a judge is set to decide whether Tyler Robinson, 23, will face trial for the murder of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. Matthew Robinson, Tyler Robinson's father, traveled from his home approximately three hours away to attend the hearing Tuesday at the Fourth Judicial District Courthouse.
Attorneys presented closing arguments regarding the evidence against Tyler Robinson, who is accused of fatally shooting Kirk at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. Prosecutors previously presented security camera footage allegedly showing Robinson on campus with a rifle concealed in his pants. Experts testified that Robinson's DNA was likely present on the rifle and a screwdriver found at the crime scene during an earlier preliminary hearing in July.
Prosecutors also presented video testimony from Lance Twiggs, identified as Robinson's transgender partner, who claimed Robinson confessed to the shooting through text messages and in a personal conversation.
Kirk's widow, Erika Kirk, was expected to attend the hearing. She had previously exited a courtroom in July when graphic video footage of the single gunshot wound to her husband's neck was displayed. Kirk was debating students in a UVU courtyard when the shooting occurred.
If convicted of first-degree murder, Robinson could face a death sentence by firing squad.
