A military judge has thrown out portions of a confession made by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks. The ruling by Lt. Col. Michael Schrama on Friday stated that statements Mohammed made to investigators in 2007 were not given voluntarily, according to reports.

This decision could further complicate the already lengthy wait for Mohammed's trial. He has been held at Guantánamo Bay since 2003.

Mohammed is accused of orchestrating the attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people in New York, Pennsylvania, and at the Pentagon. The trial for him and four co-defendants has been pending for years, marked by legal complexities and delays.
