A federal judge on Thursday night temporarily blocked key provisions of a Trump administration rule that would have increased oversight of mail-in voting, a move that could impact its implementation. U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani issued a 14-day temporary order preventing the United States Postal Service (USPS) from enacting the new rule.

The rule, finalized shortly before the order, would have allowed the USPS to increase its oversight of mail-in voting. This followed an executive order from President Donald Trump that aimed to position the Postal Service as the primary enforcer of mail-voter eligibility.

This is not the first time Talwani has intervened in this matter. She had previously blocked Trump's executive order but lifted that decision earlier in the week after the Supreme Court ruled she had initially acted too quickly. The temporary block issued Thursday night is intended to prevent the USPS from implementing the rule while the court considers the case further.
