Experts have drawn parallels between these tactics and those employed by authoritarian leaders. Nico Perrino of the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression noted that revoking press credentials is a tactic used by regimes that the U.S. should not emulate. However, he also highlighted the U.S. legal system, particularly its independent courts, as a crucial defense against such measures.
