Judge Rules Trans Teen Accused of Hindu Temple Plot Can Receive Hormone Treatment in Jail

A judge has ordered that a 19-year-old transgender individual accused of plotting a mass shooting at a Hindu temple near Chicago will continue to receive hormone injections while in jail.

Alexandros Paporakis, who faces charges of making a terrorist threat and unlawfully possessing weapons, was ordered held without bail by a Cook County judge. The judge also issued a healthcare order, noting Paporakis's ongoing hormone replacement therapy for his gender transition, along with treatments for ADHD, depression, and anxiety.

Paporakis was arrested Sunday after coworkers reported concerning messages to authorities. Prosecutors stated that Paporakis identified as a white supremacist and expressed a desire to harm Indian people. A search of his home allegedly uncovered an unserialized AR-style rifle, ammunition, a gas canister with a slur targeting South Asians, and items depicting Nazi symbolism.

Authorities allege Paporakis left behind a manifesto describing various ethnic and religious groups as "subhumans" and detailing his plot to carry out a mass murder. He reportedly described himself in the document as "a sociopathic white supremacist Neo Nazi filled with hatred, fantasizing about mass murder nearly every day."

Paporakis is next scheduled to appear in court on October 30. The alleged plot targeted the largest Hindu temple in Aurora, a suburb of Chicago.
