Judge Rules Justice Department Illegally Fired Prosecutor Maurene Comey

A federal judge has ruled that the Justice Department unlawfully terminated Maurene Comey, a prosecutor and daughter of former FBI Director James Comey. The ruling mandates Comey's retroactive reinstatement to her position and payment of back wages.

Comey, who had served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York for approximately a decade, was dismissed last July. During her tenure, she was involved in several high-profile prosecutions, including those against Jeffrey Epstein, Sean 'Diddy' Combs, and former Senator Robert Menendez.

Following her termination, Comey filed a lawsuit asserting that her dismissal was unconstitutional and violated provisions of the First and Fifth Amendments, as well as the separation of powers. The judge presiding over the case agreed with her claims, granting her retroactive reinstatement and back pay effective December 20, 2025.
