Judge Receives Nine Penalty Points for Speeding While Rushing to Court

Deputy District Judge Charles Crow has been given nine penalty points on his driving licence after being caught speeding on three separate occasions between November 2023 and March 2026. The Judicial Conduct Investigations Office (JCIO) confirmed the disciplinary action, which was initiated after Crow voluntarily reported the offenses.

Crow apologized for his conduct, expressing embarrassment and acknowledging that rushing to or from court had contributed to the incidents. He has pledged to take steps to prevent future occurrences, including increased use of public transport, improved time management, and the use of speed-limiting controls when driving.

Crow underwent fast-track misconduct proceedings after accepting responsibility. The Lady Chief Justice, Baroness Carr, and Lord Chancellor, Alex Norris, issued Crow formal advice for misconduct. The JCIO did not specify the locations of the speeding offenses or the extent to which Crow exceeded the speed limit. In the UK, speeding offenses can result in penalty points, fines, and potential driving disqualification, with more serious infringements carrying higher penalties.

A spokesman for the JCIO stated that the Lady Chief Justice, with the Lord Chancellor's agreement, issued the formal advice for misconduct.
