A judge has paused Paramount's proposed $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, responding to a lawsuit filed by 12 Democratic attorneys general, led by California.
The legal challenge argues that the merger would negatively impact consumers by leading to higher prices, decreased quality, and less content for film and television. California Attorney General Rob Bonta stated that the deal would harm movie theaters, basic cable distributors, and audiences across the United States.
While the U.S. Department of Justice's Antitrust Division had previously approved the significant media merger in June, the deal continues to face scrutiny. It is still subject to regulatory review in other countries and remains entangled in several domestic lawsuits.
