Joy Behar Injures Shoulder Backstage at The View

Joy Behar, a co-host on ABC's "The View," missed the show on Thursday after suffering a backstage injury. Behar, 83, dislocated her shoulder after she "caught a heel" behind the scenes on Wednesday, according to her representative. Her shoulder was not broken and has been put back in place.

"She is on the mend and should be back on the show mid next week," her representative told Page Six. "She is excited to be back at the table as quickly as possible."

Sunny Hostin, another co-host, informed the audience of Behar's absence. "Whoopi [Goldberg] is still out making a movie and unfortunately our dear friend Joy dislocated her shoulder," Hostin said. "Yeah, so she's recovering and will be back soon."

Goldberg was also absent from Thursday's broadcast as she films the Netflix comedy-drama "Women Like Us."

Behar has been a fixture on "The View" for nearly three decades, with her original run from 1997 to 2013 and a return in 2015. She holds the record for the longest-running talk show host on the program. She is scheduled to celebrate her 84th birthday on October 7.

This is not Behar's first on-set mishap. She previously missed a few days of the show in November 2025 after breaking a toe when she dropped an iPad on her foot. In June, she took a two-week break to perform her play, "My First Ex-Husband," in London, which she clarified was for work and not a hiatus.

Behar has previously stated she has no plans to retire from "The View," citing her enjoyment of the job and the show's success. "We're the most-watched show in daytime. Most-watched!" she said in 2022. "I'm happy to be a part of it. So no, I'm not going anywhere. I'm having a good time."
