Oliver Darcy, founder of "Status," has suggested that former Fox News host Maria Bartiromo might find a new position with President Donald Trump, potentially as a press secretary.
Fox News announced Bartiromo's departure after 12 years on Thursday. Darcy, along with Puck News' Dylan Byers, reported that her exit followed an incident where she reportedly sent a screenshot of a confidential memo to the White House. The memo instructed Fox employees to avoid covering Trump's claims about the 2020 election.
Bartiromo's attorney, Bryan Freedman, has denied reports of her termination, stating they are "absolutely and unequivocally false."
Darcy told MS Now’s Nicolle Wallace that Bartiromo's actions might have displeased both the White House and her former employers. He proposed that Trump could "swoop in" and hire Bartiromo, citing her long-standing relationship with the former president. "She's known him for a long time outside his 10 years in public office. She’s known him from back in his New York days," Darcy said.
Darcy described Bartiromo as a "true believer" and a "close ally and personal friend of the president," suggesting she may have embraced Trump's claims about the 2020 election. Bartiromo joined Fox News in 2014 and gained prominence in the 1990s for her live reporting from the New York Stock Exchange floor. She was previously named in lawsuits against Fox News Media, including one by Dominion Voting Systems, which was settled in April 2023. Smartmatic's lawsuit against the company is ongoing.
