Josie Gibson Details Arm Lift Surgery Amid Lipoedema Battle, Plans Further Procedures

Josie Gibson, a presenter for "This Morning," has provided an update on the results of her brachioplasty, commonly known as an arm lift, which she underwent in March to address lipoedema. Gibson shared on Instagram that while the resulting scars might appear significant to some, she considers the surgery the "best thing she's ever done for herself."

Lipoedema is a chronic condition characterized by the abnormal, symmetrical accumulation of fat and fluid, primarily affecting the legs, hips, and buttocks, and sometimes the upper arms. There is currently no cure for the condition.

Gibson, 41, explained that she had long felt something was "not quite right" with her body, describing her legs as feeling "really really heavy" and noting that the symptoms of lipoedema had worsened with age. She reported that her arms were previously unable to be lifted above her head.

She detailed her recovery process, noting that she returned to work after 17 days and felt well enough to perform a live segment. Gibson stated that her surgeries have not been painful, though they are uncomfortable, and she would undergo the procedure again. "I would definitely do it again, I would love to get my legs done," she said.

Gibson revealed plans for three more surgeries on her legs, having already undergone one liposuction procedure on the lower part of her legs. She cited the cost and scheduling as factors in the timing of these future procedures. "But obviously it's the cost and having the space in your diary," she noted.

Regarding her choice of surgeon, Gibson selected Dr. Paul Tulley for her brachioplasty, having seen him on "This Morning" and finding him described as "the arm guy." She met with Dr. Tulley and felt immediately comfortable and in good hands, emphasizing the importance of a patient feeling at ease with their surgeon.

Gibson shared before-and-after images of her arms, commenting, "Some people might think the scars are pretty horrific but I would rather that than what I had before." She plans to undergo laser treatment to reduce the appearance of the scars, which she noted can help blend the color back to a skin tone.

To aid her recovery, Gibson utilized NAD+, an oxygen chamber, vitamin D, Glutathione, and a sleep aid. She stated, "I'm not on the skinny jabs but I need to be, bloody hell, look at those rolls."

Gibson disclosed that her arm surgery cost over £8,000, which included both liposuction and skin removal. She clarified that she is not a medical professional and is only sharing her personal experience, advising others to conduct their own research. "For me personally, it was one of the best things I've ever done. I've literally had a weight lifted off my shoulders and that's exactly how it felt," she expressed. She added that she is now comfortable wearing sleeveless tops and feels "alright about it."
