Josh Widdicombe Shares Behind-the-Scenes Glimpses of 'Strictly' Journey Amid Viewer Backlash

Comedian Josh Widdicombe, 43, has offered a candid look at his experiences during his first month as a host on Strictly Come Dancing, sharing behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram. This comes amid viewer backlash and scrutiny over the new hosting lineup, which includes Emma Willis and Johannes Radebe, who took over from long-time hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.

Widdicombe posted a gallery of images capturing moments from rehearsals and backstage, including a photo with Shaun Wright-Phillips, selfies with professional dancers and Dani Dyer, and a shot of co-host Emma Willis reviewing scripts backstage. He also shared a picture with actor Ray Winstone outside the backstage 'Star Bar,' accompanied by the caption: "Don't take enough photos at Strictly but here are some of the JOURNEY so far."

Despite initial criticism, fans appear to be gradually warming to Widdicombe's presenting style. The show has faced criticism for its decision to maintain the trio presenting format for subsequent shows, a structure that had drawn negative feedback following the initial broadcasts. Widdicombe and Willis have been presenting on the dance floor, while Radebe has been positioned in the 'Clauditorium.'

The comedian has also had some lighthearted exchanges with the judges. Following a critique from Craig Revel-Horwood, Motsi Mabuse agreed with his assessment, prompting Revel-Horwood to suggest moving on to Shirley Ballas. Widdicombe jokingly called out "Shirley!" as if to bypass Mabuse's feedback. Mabuse responded playfully, asking if they were to be "friends or enemies," a remark that Widdicombe and the audience met with laughter. Later, during feedback for Dani Dyer and Nikita Kuzmin's performance, Revel-Horwood questioned Widdicombe's hand gestures, asking, "What are you doing, Josh?" The exchange led to social media commentary from viewers.

Meanwhile, Strictly professionals Janette Manrara and Kai Widdrington have offered their support for the new presenting team. Manrara acknowledged the significant public attention and opinions surrounding the change, emphasizing the difficulty of stepping into established roles. Widdrington, a close friend of Radebe, praised the entire trio for making the celebrity contestants feel welcome. Both professionals expressed that they focus on enjoying the show rather than dwelling on negative commentary.
