Josh Jacobs Expresses Remorse Over Battery Incident
Running back rejoins Packers after six-game suspension, takes responsibility for actions.
Josh Jacobs has publicly expressed remorse for a violent incident that led to his six-game suspension, stating that "a four-second, three-second decision can alter your life." The running back was recently removed from the commissioner's exempt list and rejoined the Green Bay Packers, addressing reporters on Wednesday.
"I'm sorry for putting this team in this situation," Jacobs said. "Sometimes when you go through life, situations occur. ... I’m just trying to come back in here and play ball, learn from this mistake and move forward."
Jacobs was suspended in August after being charged with two counts stemming from an altercation with his girlfriend at his Wisconsin home in May. Authorities alleged that Jacobs grabbed the woman, threw her to the ground, causing injury, and broke her phone.
On September 10, Jacobs pleaded no contest to one count of battery and one count of criminal damage to property. During the court proceedings, he stated he was taking "full responsibility" for his behavior.
"I'm still a human being, man," Jacobs said Wednesday. "Still trying to learn. Still trying to grow from the whole process. Actually learned a lot throughout this process. Legally and just personally. But, yeah, man. Going forward just try to be better."
Head coach Matt LaFleur reiterated his support for Jacobs, having previously defended the running back. "I do believe he is a good person," LaFleur said. "I’ve been around him quite a bit. I believe in second chances."
The Packers posted a 4-2 record during Jacobs' absence. The team has not yet announced how much playing time Jacobs will receive in their upcoming game against the Detroit Lions.
