Josh Jacobs' Ex-Girlfriend Seeks to Seal Evidence in Domestic Violence Case
Motion filed by woman's attorneys cites desire for privacy as NFL investigates Packers star.
Attorneys for Josh Jacobs' ex-girlfriend have filed a motion to permanently seal evidence and discovery materials in the criminal case against the Green Bay Packers running back, citing her desire to protect her privacy. The motion was filed Tuesday, according to a statement from attorneys Ramses Jalalpour and Amir Tahmassebi, who are representing the woman identified as "ANM."
This move follows a temporary sealing of evidence, including surveillance video of an incident that occurred in Jacobs' garage, which was put in place last Thursday. Jacobs pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property stemming from a May 23 incident.
The NFL is currently conducting its own investigation into the matter and is attempting to obtain the video as part of its inquiry, according to NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport. Jacobs remains on the Commissioner's Exempt List, a designation that counts toward any potential suspension.
The criminal complaint alleged that Jacobs threw his ex-girlfriend to the ground and damaged her phone. The video in question reportedly captures the portion of the incident that took place in the garage.
Jacobs has been ordered to have no contact with the woman, pay restitution, attend counseling, and remain under supervision for one year. The NFL's standard discipline for a first-time domestic violence offense under its conduct policy is a six-game suspension without pay, though this can be increased based on aggravating factors.
In addressing the court, Jacobs stated, "I fully understand the seriousness of the situation and I take full responsibility." His attorneys, David Z. Chesnoff, Richard A. Schonfeld, and Clarence F Duchac, released a statement saying, "With this agreement, Josh has accepted responsibility for his conduct and resolved this matter." They also noted his "career-long history of Josh’s community work while in the NFL, which has centered on the circumstances of his early life."
