Josh Jacobs Criticized for Handcuff Touchdown Celebration Following Domestic Violence Arrest

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs faced intense criticism on social media for his touchdown celebration during Thursday night's game against the Carolina Panthers. Jacobs, who was making his second appearance of the season after missing the first six games due to an NFL investigation into domestic abuse allegations, appeared to mimic being placed in handcuffs after scoring a second-quarter touchdown.

Fans and observers on X (formerly Twitter) quickly condemned the gesture, with many calling it insensitive and lacking shame. "No way Josh Jacobs just did a handcuff celebration after being arrested for domestic violence. This dude has zero shame," one user posted. Another commented, "Bro turned his domestic violence into a touchdown dance. Impressive in the worst way."

Jacobs pleaded no contest in August to misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property stemming from a May altercation with his then-girlfriend. He was accused of grabbing the woman and throwing her to the ground, causing her to hit her head, and also destroying her phone. Surveillance footage reportedly corroborated the woman's account. He was ordered to attend counseling and pay restitution.

The NFL's investigation into the incident is ongoing, and any potential suspension could count toward the six games he already missed this season. Jacobs returned to the field last week against the Detroit Lions, also scoring a touchdown. He previously expressed remorse for potentially distracting the team, stating, "Obviously, man, I'm remorseful and sorry for putting this team in this situation. Sometimes when you go through life, situations occur and a four-second, three-second decision can alter your life, honestly."

His attorneys stated that Jacobs has been working on self-improvement and accepts responsibility for his actions. They added he is grateful for the support he has received and would not comment further due to ongoing legal matters.
