NBA champion Josh Hart has publicly supported the Texas State Board of Education's recent decision to mandate the reading of Bible passages in public schools. The New York Knicks player shared his positive reaction on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
The Texas State Board of Education voted 9-5-1 on Friday to add specific Bible texts to their required reading list. For fifth graders, the curriculum will include passages from the Book of Exodus, and seventh graders will be assigned "The Shepherd's Psalm."
Republican board member Julie Pickren stated that the inclusion of these texts aims to offer "important insight into the moral and philosophical traditions that have shaped Western civilization." She further explained that a classical education approach, which involves studying primary historical documents, is crucial for developing critical thinking skills. Pickren believes that engaging directly with foundational texts allows students to evaluate ideas and deepen their understanding of the principles underpinning the United States and Texas.
Hart, known for frequently expressing his faith, reacted to the news with a post that read, "Whoever has ears let them hear," accompanied by three fire emojis.
