Josh Brolin Details Decade of Sobriety Through Daily AA Meetings

Actor Josh Brolin has maintained his sobriety for over ten years, attributing his success to a daily commitment to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

Brolin, 58, stated in a recent interview that he attends an AA meeting via Zoom every morning at 6 a.m. to support his sobriety. He reflected on a moment in his life where he woke up on a sidewalk, realizing he had reached a critical juncture regarding his alcohol consumption.

This realization led to his arrest for public intoxication on New Year's Day in 2013 in Santa Monica, California. Police found him on a sidewalk and he was held until he sobered up. Brolin subsequently entered rehabilitation and joined Alcoholics Anonymous.

He expressed his enjoyment of sobriety, telling The Telegraph, "I love being sober. I'm having way more fun now than I ever did drinking, and I never end up in jail, which is a real bonus."

Brolin is now focused on his physical health, incorporating regular gym visits and a diet free of bread, sugar, and pasta, particularly when preparing for major film roles. After getting sober, his career saw a resurgence with roles in films such as "Sicario" (2015), "Everest," "Avengers: Infinity War," "Deadpool 2," and "Weapons." He is also a prominent figure in the "Dune" franchise, with its third installment scheduled for release in December.

In addition to his ongoing career, Brolin is currently featured in the survival thriller "Whalefall." He also recalled a past professional regret, criticizing the 2010 DC Comics film "Jonah Hex," despite having influenced the casting of several notable actors for the project. He suggested that while the director's cut might have been promising, studio interference negatively impacted the final product.

Brolin has been married three times, most recently to Kathryn Boyd in 2016, and has four children.
