Josh Brolin: Daily AA Meetings Crucial to Sobriety

Actor Josh Brolin has revealed the routine that has helped him maintain sobriety for over ten years: attending an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting every morning at 6 a.m. via Zoom.

Brolin, 58, described a pivotal moment where he awoke on the sidewalk outside his home, which he called a "fork in the road" that prompted him to change his life. This incident followed his arrest for public intoxication on New Year's Day 2013 in Santa Monica, California. He was taken to a local station until he sobered up.

Following the arrest, Brolin entered rehab and subsequently joined AA. He told The Telegraph that he now enjoys sobriety more than he ever did drinking, noting the added benefit of avoiding legal trouble.

Career and Health Focus

Brolin's career has seen a resurgence after achieving sobriety. He has focused on his health, incorporating regular gym visits and a diet excluding bread, sugar, and pasta, particularly when preparing for major roles. His filmography includes roles in "Sicario" (2015), "Everest," "Avengers: Infinity War," "Deadpool 2," and "Weapons." He is also a prominent figure in the "Dune" franchise, with its third installment slated for release in December. Currently, he stars in the survival thriller "Whalefall."

Reflection on "Jonah Hex"

Despite a successful career, Brolin has expressed regret over his involvement in the 2010 DC Comics film "Jonah Hex." He noted that while he brought together a talented cast including Michael Fassbender, Megan Fox, and John Malkovich, the final film did not meet expectations, attributing the issues to studio interference during post-production rather than the director's original vision. Brolin also commented on the lack of enjoyment in promotional tours for films that he deems unsuccessful.

Brolin, who has four children, married Kathryn Boyd in 2016.
