Former Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe has pleaded guilty to assaulting his ex-girlfriend after pulling a braid from her head during a row over money. The footballer, 30, assaulted his former partner Amie Mayson outside her home in Lambeth, south London, on December 14.

Ibe and Ms. Mayson were arguing when she confronted him and demanded repayment of money she claimed he owed her, Croydon Magistrates' Court heard. Prosecutors stated that Ibe, who was carrying a bag with drinks, snacks, and flowers, grabbed Ms. Mayson's hair after she threw muffins on the floor and called him a 'druggy.' The court was told that Ibe pulled a braid from his partner's head, leaving her with a bald patch.

In a victim impact statement, Ms. Mayson said the attack significantly affected her confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth. "Looking in the mirror is very distressing for me," she stated. "The injury is a constant reminder of what happened and often leaves me feeling emotionally drained and upset."

Ibe changed his plea to guilty after initially denying the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in March. He confirmed his personal details in court, apologizing for being nervous. Ibe previously made 41 appearances for Liverpool before playing for Derby County, Birmingham City, and AFC Bournemouth, where he appeared 92 times between 2016 and 2020. The former England under-21 international currently plays for Lokomotiv Sofia in the Bulgarian First League, having returned to non-league football for two years before his move to Bulgaria in November 2025.

District Judge Polly Gledhill indicated that the case falls within community order territory and ordered a pre-sentence report, stating that she was not ruling anything out. The judge urged Ibe to be "as honest and open" with probation services. He was granted bail with conditions prohibiting him from contacting Ms. Mayson or going to her address. Ibe, who resides between Chislehurst, south-east London, and Bulgaria, is scheduled to be sentenced at the same court on September 4.
