Former Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe, 30, has avoided jail time after pleading guilty to assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Amie Mayson. The incident, which occurred outside Ms. Mayson's home in Lambeth, south London, on December 14, involved Ibe pulling a braid from her head during a dispute over money.
During a hearing at Croydon Magistrates' Court, Ibe expressed remorse for his actions, stating, "I made a serious mistake." The court heard that the altercation began after Ms. Mayson confronted Ibe and demanded repayment of money she claimed he owed her. According to prosecutor Aya Alshekhili, when Ms. Mayson called Ibe a "druggy," he grabbed her arm and then her hair, resulting in a bald patch on her head.
Magistrate Brij Kalia sentenced Ibe to a 12-month community order, 80 hours of unpaid work, and 27 days of rehabilitation activity. He was also fined £764, which included a £114 surcharge and £650 in court costs.
Ms. Mayson, in a victim impact statement, described the assault's significant physical and mental toll, noting that her confidence and self-worth were diminished. Despite experiencing lingering fear, she stated that forgiveness was part of her healing journey and expressed compassion for Ibe.
Ibe, who represented himself in court, admitted to the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in July, having initially denied it in March. The court was informed that his relationship with Ms. Mayson had been on-and-off since late 2024. Ibe previously played for Liverpool, making 58 appearances before moving to Derby County, Birmingham City, and AFC Bournemouth. He currently plays for Lokomotiv Sofia in the Bulgarian First League, having returned to professional football after a period in non-league play.
