Jonathan Majors Defends Controversial Role in Daily Wire Film 'Infidels'
The actor addressed criticism of the movie, which has been labeled 'Islamophobic drivel,' stating he embraces roles that challenge him and offer personal growth.
Actor Jonathan Majors has defended his participation in the Daily Wire film “Run Hide Fight: Infidels,” a project that has faced significant criticism and been described by some outlets as “Islamophobic drivel” and “far-right propaganda.” The movie, released on September 16, features Majors as Clay Saunders, a retired Delta Force Officer who espouses strong anti-Islam sentiments.
In a Q&A session with Daily Wire subscribers, Majors discussed his approach to selecting roles, emphasizing a focus on the character's responsibility and the world they inhabit, rather than the size of the part. “I’ve got to do something and understand something that I didn’t understand before” and “be curious about,” Majors stated. He explained his decision to join “Run Hide Fight: Infidels” by saying, “I read it. I said, ‘Wow, I don’t really have the answers to this, you know. So, this is something that I should engage in, you know, in order to grow.’”
Majors characterized the role as an opportunity for him to “grow as a person, as an artist.” He conveyed that the character's significant responsibility within the film made it an appealing project for him. The film's narrative includes dialogue such as Saunders telling college students, “There are three ways Islam will conquer the West. Through immigration, through the wombs of our women and by using our nation’s freedoms against us.” Another line attributed to the character states, “They desire death as ardently as we desire life. They believe it is their right to take from you, to subjugate you, even to kill you. Horrific acts done to non-Muslims are not only allowed, but encouraged by Allah.”
Despite critical pans from publications like The Guardian, Variety, MS Now, and Slate, the film has reportedly exceeded expectations for the Daily Wire. A spokesperson for the outlet noted that on its first day, the film garnered triple the subscriptions compared to the original “Run Hide Fight” within the same timeframe and continues to build momentum.
