Jon Stewart, host of "The Daily Show," sharply criticized the media's reliance on and amplification of election polling data, particularly in the lead-up to the midterm elections.

Stewart contended that the constant reporting of polls, which often exhibit significant swings and margins of error, appeals to a primal desire for simple answers rather than providing nuanced information. He expressed frustration with news outlets that highlight polling data, even when acknowledging its potential unreliability.

"Enthusiastic bullshit is still bullshit," Stewart stated, highlighting clips of CNN data analyst Harry Enten's animated presentations of poll results and prediction markets. Stewart argued that this focus on speculative data, rather than substantive information and context, is detrimental to viewers.

He pleaded with cable news networks to reconsider their extensive pre-election coverage of polls, suggesting that such a practice is "corrosive to your viewers' well-being."
