LIV Golf sources reportedly believe that Jon Rahm, one of the circuit's marquee players, is likely to leave the league soon, a move that could have significant repercussions for the breakaway golf organization.

The Telegraph reported Thursday that "LIV sources have indicated that they are almost resigned to Rahm departing." This potential departure comes amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future of LIV Golf, which announced a new, unnamed investor intended to keep the circuit operational into 2027.

Rahm, a two-time major champion, signed a reported nine-figure deal with LIV Golf. While he has two years remaining on his contract, his exit could undermine efforts to attract and secure further investment. LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil had previously stated that a "term sheet" had been signed by an unknown investor, with a concrete agreement anticipated in September.

The Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), which backs LIV Golf, announced earlier this year that it would cease funding at the conclusion of the 2026 season. This decision may complicate the process of Rahm receiving his remaining signing bonus, which is reportedly still owed to him.

Further complicating matters for LIV players is the status of conditional releases to compete on other tours. Reports suggest that such releases for 2027 are "highly unlikely," potentially forcing players like Rahm to choose between LIV Golf and other circuits, such as the DP World Tour.

Whether the PGA Tour would offer a direct path back for LIV players who choose to leave after the 2026 season remains unclear. While past champions and major winners like Rahm retain some exemptions, the current unprecedented situation leaves the pathway for re-entry uncertain. A departure from LIV by Rahm, potentially alongside other prominent players, could significantly jeopardize the circuit's future viability.
