Jon Rahm Finalizes Departure from LIV Golf, Forfeiting Remaining Contract

Jon Rahm has officially concluded his tenure with LIV Golf, agreeing to a settlement that releases him from the remainder of his lucrative contract with the league. This separation comes as LIV Golf navigates its own financial restructuring following the withdrawal of significant backing.

While LIV Golf filed for bankruptcy in September, listing Rahm as its largest unsecured creditor with a claim of $7.5 million, reports indicate he was owed more than $100 million by the organization. The exact financial terms of Rahm's departure were not disclosed.

As part of the separation agreement, LIV Golf has returned Rahm's exclusive name, image, and likeness rights, which include his nickname "Rhambo" and the name of his team, "Legion XIII." Rahm, who held the world No. 1 ranking for 52 weeks between 2020 and 2021, joined LIV Golf in 2023 after winning the Masters and the U.S. Open. He secured individual championships in all three of his seasons with the league, earning $107 million in on-course winnings.

Rahm's attorney, John Beck, stated on October 7 during LIV's bankruptcy hearing that the golfer had reviewed proposed terms for a potential "LIV 2.0" but found them unacceptable, confirming his non-participation in any future iteration of the league.

With LIV Golf's future uncertain as it awaits a decision by the end of the month on its proposed restart plans, Rahm's own golfing future remains a subject of speculation. He is scheduled to compete in the DP World Tour's Abu Dhabi Championship from November 5-8. However, there is currently no clear path for his return to the PGA Tour. Rahm had previously declined the PGA Tour's Returning Member Program, a pathway that allowed Brooks Koepka to rejoin the tour. According to PGA Tour's Brian Rolapp, this program will not be offered again.
