Jon Hamm Reveals Excitement and Terror Over Becoming a Father
The 55-year-old actor shared his feelings about expecting a child with his wife, Anna Osceola, acknowledging the age difference.
Jon Hamm, 55, has publicly shared his emotions about his wife Anna Osceola's, 38, pregnancy, describing himself as both "very excited and deeply terrified" about becoming a father.
The actor made the announcement during an appearance on "Late Night with Seth Meyers" on Tuesday. A photo was shown of Hamm and Osceola at the Emmy Awards, where her baby bump was visible. "We are having a baby!" Hamm announced.
When asked about his feelings, Hamm responded, "By turns very excited and deeply terrified. Yeah, so I think I'm doing it right." He and Meyers, 52, then discussed the prospect of being older parents. Hamm humorously noted the age gap, saying, "When your kid is 70, you’ll be like, 'I did it!' When I’m 152."
This news comes after the Daily Mail exclusively reported Osceola's pregnancy in August. Hamm's upcoming fatherhood marks a significant shift, as he previously expressed reservations about having children.
In a 2008 interview with The Guardian, while he was in a long-term relationship with Jennifer Westfeldt, Hamm stated, "I don't necessarily want kids. A lot of our friends are having children and I don't know if it's for me." He elaborated that he hadn't definitively decided but felt that children were often a celebration for those from stable families, a situation he was unsure he experienced.
Hamm and Westfeldt were together for nearly two decades before separating in 2015. He met Osceola in 2015 when she guest-starred on an episode of "Mad Men." Shortly after, Hamm and Westfeldt announced their split, with sources at the time attributing it partly to Hamm's "party-heavy lifestyle."
The actor and Osceola were first spotted together in 2017 and confirmed their relationship in 2020. They made their red carpet debut as a couple in 2022 and also appeared together in the film "Confess, Fletch." The couple became engaged in February 2023.
Hamm has spoken about how his relationship with Osceola led him to re-evaluate his past and seek therapy for childhood trauma, including the loss of his mother at age ten. He credited therapy with opening up possibilities like marriage and having children. In a June 2024 interview, Hamm expressed his hope that his marriage would lead to children, acknowledging, "It’s not lost on me that I’m 53. I will be the old dad, but so it goes. It could be a good thing. We’ll see."
