Jon Hamm Opens Up About 'Terrified' Feelings of Becoming an Older Father
The 55-year-old actor and his pregnant wife, Anna Osceola, were spotted in New York City, showcasing a 'dad style' as they anticipate their first child.
Jon Hamm, 55, recently shared his candid feelings about impending fatherhood, admitting he is "very excited and deeply terrified" about welcoming a child in his mid-fifties. The actor and his wife, 38-year-old actress Anna Osceola, were photographed in New York City earlier this week, with Osceola visibly pregnant.
Hamm sported a casual yet put-together ensemble, featuring a royal blue chore coat over indigo jeans, black leather boots, sunglasses, and a "SPY" embroidered dad hat. Osceola opted for comfort in a striped shearling jacket over a grey Cambridge Athletics sweater, black leggings, and white sneakers, highlighting her baby bump.
The couple also brought their dog, Splash, on their stroll. Hamm adopted Splash in September 2020.
During a recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Hamm confirmed the baby news after the host showed a photo of the couple at the Emmy Awards where Osceola's pregnancy was apparent. He described his emotions as "by turns very excited and deeply terrified," adding, "Yeah, so I think I'm doing it right."
Hamm, who will be a first-time father, joked with Meyers about the age difference between himself and his future child, quipping, "When your kid is 70, you'll be like, 'I did it!' When I'm 152."
The couple's pregnancy news was first exclusively reported by the Daily Mail in August, when Osceola debuted her baby bump during a vacation in Ischia, Italy.
This impending parenthood marks a shift for Hamm, who in a 2008 interview with The Guardian stated he "didn't necessarily want kids." He had expressed that he wasn't sure fatherhood was for him, especially considering the experiences of his friends who were starting families. At the time, he was in a long-term relationship with Jennifer Westfeldt, which began in 1997 and ended in 2015.
Hamm and Osceola, who first met in 2015 on the set of Mad Men when she made a guest appearance, made their red carpet debut in 2022. They also appeared together in the crime comedy feature Confess, Fletch. The couple became engaged in February 2023.
Hamm has previously spoken about how his relationship with Osceola led him to reevaluate his life and seek therapy for childhood trauma, including the death of his mother at age ten. He told Sirius XM in 2022 that this process "opened up the possibility of things like being married, having kids, defining a new version of happiness, life, wellness."
In June 2024, Hamm expressed his hope for children with Osceola, acknowledging his age: "It's not lost on me that I'm 53. I will be the old dad, but so it goes. It could be a good thing. We'll see."
