John Torode's 'Burnt' Mac and Cheese Sparks Viewer Outrage on This Morning
Chef John Torode's culinary mishap on live television draws sharp criticism from online viewers.
Chef John Torode presented a mac and cheese dish on Monday's episode of This Morning that viewers described as "burnt and inedible." Hosts Sian Welby and Dermot O'Leary were required to sample the overcooked pasta, prompting a wave of reactions from the audience.
Torode himself acknowledged the dish's appearance, remarking as he removed it from the oven, "Oh, it's gone a bit spooky across the top, but that's ok." However, viewers expressed their displeasure on social media platform X, with comments such as "Hahahaha looks a bit burnt," "Burnt food is delish, yeah right…," and "Don't think its meant to be that colour!"
This incident follows recent news that Torode and his wife, Lisa Faulkner, sold their north London home for £1.8 million. The sale occurred 15 months after Torode's departure as a judge from BBC's MasterChef. The couple reportedly reduced the asking price by £105,000 to finalize the sale, still securing a profit of nearly £600,000 on the property they purchased in 2015 for £1.2 million.
The residence had previously been featured in their YouTube cooking show, "John And Lisa's Kitchen And Home." The five-bedroom Edwardian home in Muswell Hill underwent significant renovations by the couple, who married in 2019. The property also includes a garden with a modern office space.
Faulkner recently shared that she had been recovering from an operation following a breast cancer diagnosis in April, finding solace in the garden's environment. She spoke of focusing on positive aspects during difficult times and expressed a desire to continue their YouTube cooking show and acting work.
Torode's exit from MasterChef after a two-decade tenure came after an allegation of singing along to lyrics containing a racial slur from a Kanye West song at a 2019 wrap party. While he stated he did not recall the incident, the BBC did not renew his contract following an investigation. His departure coincided with that of fellow judge Gregg Wallace, who was dismissed over allegations of misconduct.
