John Schneider, known for his role in "The Dukes of Hazzard," is publicly addressing his ongoing estate dispute with his ex-wife, Elvira Schneider, stating that "everything's a negotiation." The actor expressed his confusion over why an ex-spouse would anticipate continued financial support after the dissolution of a marriage.
Elvira Schneider has alleged in court filings that John owes over $2.3 million in unpaid spousal support, plus more than $984,000 in accrued interest. Her filing also requests portions of John's Screen Actors Guild pension and Social Security benefits if the sum cannot be paid directly. John's legal response contends that his former wife miscalculated the amount and failed to provide supporting evidence.
The former couple married in 1993, and Elvira filed for divorce in 2014. The divorce was finalized in 2019, but the legal and financial dispute has continued for over a decade.
Schneider made these remarks while in Washington, D.C., where he performed a concert celebrating America's 250th anniversary. He described the invitation to perform as an honor and reflected on attending the nation's Bicentennial celebration as a teenager in 1976. "So now, to be part of something else 50 years later, I can't believe that, but it's true ... the 250th birthday. And I'm proud of our country, and I'm proud of everything that's going on right now," Schneider stated.
Despite the legal battle, Schneider is focusing on his current work and his marriage to wife Dee Dee Sorvino. He emphasized the importance of partnership in relationships, describing it as a two-sided commitment with shared responsibilities. "A relationship is something that has to … it's two-sided. There are two people involved, and there are two sets of responsibilities," he said.
Looking ahead, Schneider expressed optimism about his future, stating, "We get better and better every day. We have greater and greater aspirations every day because we live in this country, and we can do that. I mean it with every fiber of my being when I say that my best days are ahead of me."
Schneider is also known for his roles in "Smallville" and Tyler Perry's "The Haves and the Have Nots."
