John Mayer Teases Las Vegas Sphere Shows with Intimate Mohegan Sun Performance

John Mayer offered a glimpse into his upcoming Las Vegas Sphere residency with a two-hour solo performance at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, on October 9, 2026. The concert, part of Mohegan Sun's 30th Birthday Celebration, highlighted Mayer's versatility and provided a preview of what fans can expect at his own Sphere shows in spring 2027.

Mayer, a Connecticut native, played a solo set that blended familiar hits with a more intimate performance style. This marked his first standalone show in years, drawing inspiration from his current residency at the Las Vegas Sphere with Dead & Company. The Mohegan Sun concert demonstrated a range spanning over 25 years of his discography, from early hits like "Room for Squares" to his latest album "Sob Rock." He fluidly switched between instruments including acoustic guitar, harmonica, and piano, engaging the audience with personal anecdotes and self-deprecating humor.

The setlist included popular songs such as "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room," "Your Body is a Wonderland," and "Neon," alongside covers like Beyoncé's "XO" and a rendition of Tom Petty's "Free Fallin'" for the encore. Mayer also performed deeper cuts like "Walt Grace’s Submarine Test, January 1967" and "Badge and Gun," and incorporated covers of a-ha's "Take on Me" and Harry Styles' "As It Was." While he did not debut new material at Mohegan Sun, Mayer has confirmed he is working on new music, with a song release teased for October 23.

Mayer's recent musical direction, including collaborations with artists like Remi Wolf and Lainey Wilson, suggests a continued exploration beyond pop and acoustic rock, leaning into country and Americana influences. His performances, both solo and with his band or the John Mayer Trio, are scheduled to feature three distinct formats at the Las Vegas Sphere in April, May, and June 2027.

The Mohegan Sun concert served as a reminder of Mayer's status as a gifted live performer. The venue itself, Mohegan Sun Arena, is part of a larger resort complex offering dining, shopping, and entertainment. The arena is known for providing an intimate concert experience, hosting a variety of artists throughout the year.

John Mayer is scheduled to perform at the Las Vegas Sphere on select dates from April through June 2027. A list of confirmed dates includes April 8, 10, 11, 15, 17, 18, 28, 30; May 1, 5, 7, 8, 12, 14, 15; and June 2, 4, 5, 9, 11, 12, 2027.
