John Goodman Appears at 'Digger' Premiere Amidst Significant Weight Loss
The actor debuted his transformation, having lost an estimated 200 pounds, at the screening of the new satirical film.
John Goodman showcased a dramatic physical transformation at the premiere of "Digger" in Los Angeles on Monday. The 74-year-old actor appeared significantly slimmer, having reportedly lost approximately 200 pounds.
Goodman, who plays the President of the United States in the satirical film, was photographed on the red carpet in a sharp black suit, a striped shirt, and a gray tie. He attended the event with his wife, Anna Beth, who was dressed in a maroon gown.
"Digger," which stars Tom Cruise as well, is set to premiere in theaters on Friday. The film also features actors Riz Ahmed, Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Emma D’Arcy, and is directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu.
This public appearance comes after Goodman has openly discussed his weight loss journey, which began in 2007. At his heaviest, he weighed around 400 pounds. His efforts to lose weight have included quitting alcohol, hiring a personal trainer, cutting sugar from his diet, and adopting a Mediterranean-style eating plan.
In a 2016 interview with ABC News, Goodman described his past attempts at weight loss as cyclical, where he would lose weight only to regain it. He stated his intention to lose weight slowly and incorporate exercise, acknowledging that as he aged, staying active became more important.
Goodman also revealed to Rolling Stone in 2023 that he had taken up boxing, engaging in approximately an hour to an hour and a half of training sessions focusing on mitt work, bag work, and footwork. He described this activity as "great."
In July, Goodman sustained a hip fracture after a fall on the set of "Digger." He received prompt medical attention at the Cleveland Clinic in London, where he underwent surgery. He reported at the time that the procedure was successful.
