John Farnham's Health Update

The family of Australian music icon John Farnham has shared a health update, stating that the singer now requires continuous oxygen support and uses a wheelchair. His son, James Farnham, revealed on social media that his father's health has deteriorated in recent months, making him unable to attend a tribute concert in Melbourne.

"Unfortunately, he will not be able to attend and, as a family, we feel it is important to provide an update on John's health to help explain why," James Farnham wrote. He explained that Farnham now requires 24-hour nursing care at home. The family decided to make this information public to help fans understand his current circumstances and why he could not be present at the event.

The tribute concert, "The Songs of John Farnham: A Living Legend," was scheduled to feature performances by numerous Australian artists. Proceeds from the event are set to support Head and Neck Cancer Australia. Farnham's family expressed gratitude for the organizers, artists, and crew involved in the concert, as well as for the ongoing messages of love and support from his fans.

Farnham's health battle began after a persistent mouth ulcer was examined, leading to the discovery of a cancerous tumor. He underwent a 12-hour surgery to remove part of his jaw and reconstruct facial sections, followed by eight weeks of radiation treatment. In his memoir, Farnham described the physical toll the surgeries took, affecting his ability to open his mouth and sing.

Despite his current health challenges, the tribute concert has seen overwhelming demand, with tickets selling out rapidly. Farnham had initially been hesitant about a tribute concert but agreed when organizers explained it would benefit cancer research.
