John Cena has shared details about undergoing his second Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplant, nearly two years after his first procedure. The 49-year-old retired wrestler first went under the knife in November 2024 for a 13.5-hour FUE operation at the Anderson Center for Hair in Atlanta, Georgia. This decision came after online commentators referred to him as "bald."
"The objective is to get more hair, and this was the best way to do it," Cena told People magazine. "I went back to him like, 'Man, you did great. I have this one small, small, small spot. Can you do it?' He's like, 'I can. My best results are — if you're bold enough to shave your head, I can keep the follicles.'"
Cena returned to the Anderson Center on June 29 for an additional eight-hour FUE procedure, having shaved his head. He expressed confidence in the process, stating, "I'm rocking this hair thing with the promise that it's working. I have full trust and faith in him with this process."
In addition to the transplants, Cena has utilized Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and exosome treatments. His daily regimen includes red-light therapy, minoxidil, finasteride, vitamins, and specialized hair care products. Cena has been open about his feelings regarding hair loss, stating in 2024, "I hate the fact that if there wasn't so much shame around it, I'd have gotten it done 10 years ago." He also noted that he believes many men experience similar concerns, estimating that "seven or eight out of 10 [men] suffer from thinning or baldness."
Cena is also preparing for several upcoming film releases. He is set to portray Acme Corporation lawyer Buddy Crane in the film "Coyote vs. Acme," scheduled for release in UK theaters on August 21 and US theaters on August 28. Additionally, he will voice an undercover CIA agent in "Matchbox: The Movie," set to premiere on Apple TV on October 9. Furthermore, Cena is nominated for his first Emmy Award as a producer for the Amazon Prime Video action comedy "Heads of State," with the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards taking place September 5–6.
