John Cena has publicly shared details of his experience with hair restoration, describing his two hair transplant procedures as “life-changing.” Cena told People magazine that he consulted with Dr. Ken Anderson for the procedures.
“The objective is to get more hair, and this was the best way to do it, talking with Ken Anderson, my doctor over there,” Cena said. “I love the guy. He’s totally changed my life.”
Cena underwent two separate hair restoration surgeries. He described his doctor as “a master” and explained the process after his first procedure, during which he returned to the doctor for a small remaining area. The doctor informed Cena that “if you’re bold enough to shave your head, I can keep the follicles.”
His first surgery lasted 13 and a half hours, while the second was eight hours long. Cena previously expressed regret about not undergoing the procedure sooner due to the stigma surrounding hair loss.
“I hate the fact that if there wasn’t so much shame around it, I’d have gotten it done 10 years ago,” Cena told People in 2025. “I thought I was alone, but seven or eight out of 10 [men] suffer from thinning or baldness.”
Other public figures, such as actor Joel McHale, have also openly discussed their experiences with hair loss surgeries. McHale stated that he would be entirely bald without undergoing four hair transplant procedures over the years. He also offered advice, warning against lower-cost options: “If somebody is like, ‘I’ll do it for $3,000,’ then you don’t [do it]. You get what you pay for.”
