Actress Joey King has addressed persistent rumors that she underwent a facelift prior to her appearance at the Met Gala in May. The 27-year-old star, who is currently promoting her upcoming film "Practical Magic 2," clarified on a recent podcast episode that she did not have plastic surgery.
King made an appearance on the "In Your Dreams" podcast with Owen Thiele, where she directly responded to the speculation. "I didn't get a facelift," King stated. "I'm glad we're talking about this."
She further elaborated, "Just want to let you know, didn't get work done, didn't get a facelift." King admitted that the effectiveness of her beauty regimen led to the mistaken impression. "It worked because everybody thought I had plastic surgery."
King shared the steps she took to prepare for the prestigious event. "What I did do, I got a spray tan," she said. "And then I did a 36-hour fast. No food, nothing but water, which I don't promote that."
She explained that the intense preparation was prompted by feeling "swollen" and "busted" after attending a bachelorette party the weekend before the Met Gala. "I was like, 'I gotta do a reset. I'm going to do a 24-hour fast, which is good for you to do once a month if you're healthy enough to do anyway," she recalled. Her fast ultimately extended to 36 hours.
In addition to the fast and spray tan, King also received a lymphatic massage and a facial the day before the gala. "We were doing everything we could to look amazing on the carpet," she said.
King's recent public appearances are part of the promotional tour for "Practical Magic 2." In the sequel, King and Maisie Williams are taking on the roles of the daughters of Sandra Bullock's character, Sally Owens. The original actresses who played the sisters, Evan Rachel Wood and Alexandra Artrip, have spoken about the recasting. Wood expressed appreciation for King reaching out to her regarding the casting change, noting that King was the only original film participant to do so.
