Actor Joe Miñoso, known for his role as firefighter Joe Cruz on NBC's "Chicago Fire," is departing the series. Variety confirmed the news, stating Miñoso will appear in a few episodes of the upcoming 15th season to allow for his character's send-off. The departure marks the end of a significant tenure for a character who has been part of the show since its premiere.
Miñoso's character, Joe Cruz, has been a consistent presence and a fan favorite since "Chicago Fire" began. Last season, Cruz experienced a storyline involving the challenges of parenthood, as he and his wife navigated a pregnancy with twins, including a brief health scare for his wife. The character was also involved in a dramatic cliffhanger where he and other firefighters were trapped during a roof collapse.
The series is undergoing other changes, with Victor Teran stepping in as the new showrunner, replacing Andrea Newman. Actor Da'Vinchi is also set to join the cast as a new firefighter. Taylor Kinney, who plays Lieutenant Kelly Severide, acknowledged the show's longevity, telling US Weekly that it's "never lost on me how special it is to be a part of something with longevity."
"Chicago Fire" is available for streaming on Peacock. The platform offers Premium and Premium Plus subscription tiers, with annual savings available for both options.
