Joe Manganiello has responded to social media posts from his ex-wife Sofía Vergara and her son that seemed to allude to his new memoir, "Bloodlines." During an appearance on "CBS Mornings," Manganiello was asked by host Gayle King about a post shared by Vergara's son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, which stated, "This is what happens when you deal with a narcissistic man," and was subsequently liked by Vergara.
"I think anybody who said that should read the book first, and understand what the book is actually about," Manganiello stated. "Because it’s not about that. It’s about the suffering I went through."
The memoir reportedly details Manganiello's seven-year struggle with a near-fatal autoimmune illness, which he claims began shortly after his marriage to Vergara. He also reportedly alleges in the book that the illness negatively impacted their marriage, making it "devoid of any emotionality whatsoever," and that Vergara refused to hug him and mocked his pet Chihuahua.
Vergara and her son did not name Manganiello directly in their posts. The post from Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, shared on October 8, described a "narcissistic man" and stated that "it doesn’t matter how much you do for them, because they will resent you for it and nothing will ever be enough, and they’ll always somehow try to paint you as the bad guy."
Manganiello told King that he aimed to approach the topics in his book with "grace" and that it is a "nuanced discussion."
Manganiello and Vergara married in November 2015. They announced their separation in July 2023, and their divorce was finalized in April 2024. Manganiello became engaged to TV host Caitlin O’Connor last year.
