Joe Manganiello Dismisses Sofía Vergara's 'Narcissist' Post as Memoir Focuses on Health Struggles
The actor stated his new book is about his personal suffering, not his past marriage.
Joe Manganiello has responded to his ex-wife Sofía Vergara's social media activity, asserting that his upcoming memoir, "Bloodlines," is centered on his personal health journey and not their former relationship.
During an appearance on "CBS Mornings," Manganiello addressed Vergara's Instagram posts, which were interpreted as commentary on his memoir. "Anybody who said that should read the book first and understand what the book is actually about because it's not about that," he told host Gayle King. "It's about the suffering I went through."
Manganiello explained that his memoir details the significant health challenges he faced, including a near-fatal autoimmune disease. "The trauma and the pain affected everyone in my life, including me in ways that you can't predict," he shared. "This book is about the journey I went through."
An excerpt from "Bloodlines" details claims that Vergara "ridiculed" him for his small dog, Bubbles, and that she refused to hug him when he was severely ill, despite his pleas. These revelations followed Vergara's shared posts, including one from her son Manolo, that discussed "dealing with a narcissist" and contrasting their behavior with that of "good men."
Vergara and Manganiello were married for seven years before their separation in July 2023. While Vergara had previously cited differing desires regarding children as a reason for their divorce, Manganiello's memoir suggests his illness also influenced his decision about having children.
Manganiello emphasized his desire to avoid public disputes, stating, "I try to paint everyone with an amount of grace, no matter who they are, because it is a nuanced discussion, and it's not something I care to carry out on social media."
