Joe Lycett Calls for Rule Change After 'Celebrity Traitors' Banisment
Comedian Joe Lycett, after being voted out of 'Celebrity Traitors' due to a gaffe, expressed a desire for the show to create a new rule allowing banished Faithfuls to be recruited as Traitors.
Comedian Joe Lycett has called for a significant rule change in the reality competition show "Celebrity Traitors" after his dramatic banishment during Friday night's episode. Lycett, 38, believes the show should introduce a clause that would allow banished Faithfuls to be recruited as Traitors.
Lycett's exit occurred at the round table when a slip of the tongue inadvertently suggested he was a Traitor, leading to the majority of contestants voting him out. This followed earlier speculation among contestants that Lycett had been recruited by the Traitors, as he had openly expressed a desire to join their ranks.
Speaking on the spin-off show "The Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked," Lycett directly appealed to the remaining Traitors, stating, "I’d like to motivate the Traitors to find an unknown clause in the contract that can bring back a Faithful that's been banished to recruit because I'm there if they want me!"
He also offered advice to the remaining Faithful contestants, urging them to move away from voting as a bloc. "I would say to the Faithful that they need to stop voting in a block and experiment with voting with their heart and their instincts, rather than following what happens at the Round Table, because that might reap more rewards," he advised.
Lycett had been vocal about his hope to switch sides from Faithful to Traitor. While hosts Maya Jama and James Acaster ultimately recruited King Kenny, Lycett had not concealed his aspirations.
His downfall at the round table came after he stated, "Let's say they were down to two last night and they recruited, there's so much heat on me for what I was doing last night that there's a good chance that I'll go tonight, which means that they will then have to recruit again tonight, denying them of murder." This comment led to confusion among the other contestants, with James Blunt questioning the implication.
Despite the majority vote, Lycett's friend Miranda Hart expressed her inability to vote against him, playfully casting her vote for Ross Kemp instead. Lycett expressed enjoyment in his time on the show, reflecting, "Absolutely loved it. Like a total dream." He added, "I do sort of feel like we are all a family now and, as such, expect to be in all of your wills. Very sad to be going, but what a wonderful group of people. I always wanted to start as a Faithful and end as a Traitor. I started as a Faithful, and I did not get my wish. I am a Faithful."
