Joe Farrell's Son Sued for $7 Million After Alleged Beach Hit-and-Run
A lawsuit claims the 21-year-old's pickup truck struck and injured a beachgoer on a Hamptons beach.
The 21-year-old son of celebrity Hamptons builder Joe Farrell is facing a $7 million lawsuit after allegedly driving a pickup truck over a man on a Bridgehampton beach, causing broken bones and serious injuries. The incident occurred on August 18 on West Cameron Scott beach.
According to legal documents, Jack Farrell was driving a Farrell Building pickup truck at approximately 5 p.m. while looking at a lifeguard when he inadvertently struck a beachgoer who was lying on the sand. The victim reported seeing the undercarriage of the truck as it drove over him.
A witness informed the responding officer that Farrell allegedly nearly struck another individual who was in the same vicinity.
Southampton Town Regulations prohibit driving on the beach during that time of day.
On September 18, the man who was allegedly hit, 31-year-old Pablo Ibanez Fernandez, and his brother, Alberto Fernandez, who narrowly avoided being struck, filed a lawsuit in the Eastern District of New York against Jack Farrell and Farrell Building.
The plaintiffs, both residents of Spain, are seeking a total of $7 million in damages. Court documents state that Pablo "has sustained fractures" and "suffered serious permanent personal injuries," in addition to incurring medical expenses and lost wages. Alberto Fernandez claims he has experienced "emotional harm and mental distress."
Pablo is seeking $3 million in compensatory damages and $3 million in punitive damages, while Alberto is requesting $1 million, along with interest and costs. The plaintiffs have requested a jury trial.
A representative for Farrell Building declined to comment on the lawsuit.
Joe Farrell's company, Farrell Building, is known for constructing large luxury homes in the Hamptons. As of 2023, the company's portfolio was reportedly valued at approximately $3 billion, with over 400 homes built for notable clients including Madonna, Kelly Ripa, Rudy Giuliani, Kelsey Grammer, and Woody Johnson. Farrell's former estate, "Sandcastle," in Bridgehampton, which was once rented by Jay-Z and Beyoncé and Justin Bieber, sold in 2021 for $31 million. He also held a fundraiser at the property for Donald Trump in 2019 that raised over $4 million.
In 2023, Farrell expanded his ventures to Palm Beach Polo Golf & Country Club, where he announced plans to build 27 homes ranging in price from $6 million to $10 million.
