Joe Burrow Wants More Passing in Bengals Offense Despite Recent Struggles

Despite a recent 22-17 loss to the Jaguars that dropped the Cincinnati Bengals to a 2-2 record, quarterback Joe Burrow is advocating for his team to pass the ball more frequently. In the loss, Burrow dropped back to pass 58 times and completed 39 of 54 attempts for 428 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. This marked the third-most pass attempts in his career.

"Let's throw it more," Burrow stated postgame. "I know we're great at it. I know that that's what I do best, and we're pass protecting really well right now. Obviously, we'd like to get more out of the run game, but I know we'll make it work… I'm always going to want the ball in my hands in those spots, and there will be games where we run the heck out of the ball, and we're going to get under center and run it, and there will be games where we need to drop back 60 times, and we'll go and make it happen."

This request comes as Burrow has shown a concerning trend of increased turnovers in recent games. Following a pick-six against Tampa Bay and a fumble against Pittsburgh, his turnover-worthy play rate has risen to its highest point since his rookie season. The game against the Jaguars also saw star receiver Ja'Marr Chase leave with a concussion.

Head coach Zac Taylor, however, expressed no concern about Burrow's performance or the team's offensive direction. "To say that I'm concerned?" Taylor said. "No way, shape or form am I concerned about that."

The Bengals are set to play the winless Miami Dolphins next Sunday in Miami.
