Jodie Haydon, the wife of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, has spoken publicly about her personal challenges, including perimenopause and her relationship with social media. Haydon, 48, made these remarks last week at a women's wellness lunch in Melbourne, where she was a surprise guest speaker.
An attendee, Bronwyn White, shared on social media that Haydon spoke without notes or a script, discussing her experience with perimenopause and fluctuating weight. "She talked about her weight going up and down over the years, the way it does for most of us," White recounted. Haydon also shared that she has largely removed herself from social media to avoid reading online comments about her.
Haydon described her approach to wellness, which includes enjoying a glass of wine and spending time with friends. White noted that Haydon encouraged the attendees to be kinder to themselves and to each other, and to protect the progress women have made, citing a rise in misogyny.
The event was organized by the Louisa Dunkley Women's Network and marked Haydon's first public speaking engagement of this nature. Her usual professional role is Head of Strategic Partnerships at Teachers Mutual Bank. She met Albanese in 2020 and has since participated in official duties, including state dinners, overseas summits, and the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
In a 2025 interview with The Australian Women's Weekly, Haydon expressed pride in maintaining her own identity outside of her husband's public role. "I have my own professional path, and my own identity and purpose," she stated, emphasizing that she continues to work full-time and is supported by her employer, where she is known simply as Jodie.
