Jobs Report Eases Inflation Fears, Boosts Stocks

The U.S. economy added fewer jobs than anticipated in September, a development that eased concerns about persistent inflation and prompted a rally in the stock market. The report suggests that the Federal Reserve may not need to raise interest rates further.

The U.S. economy added 336,000 jobs in September, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. While this figure exceeded economists' forecasts for job growth, it was significantly lower than the revised 739,000 jobs added in August. The unemployment rate remained steady at 3.8%.

This moderation in job growth is seen as a positive sign by investors who have been worried that a tight labor market could continue to fuel inflation, forcing the Federal Reserve to implement more aggressive monetary policy. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose more than 300 points following the report, and the Nasdaq Composite reached an intraday high.

Wage growth also showed signs of cooling, with average hourly earnings increasing by 0.2% in September and 4.2% over the past year. This is a slowdown from previous months and aligns with the Fed's objective of bringing inflation back down to its 2% target. The central bank has raised interest rates 11 times since March 2022 in an effort to curb inflation.
