Joan Cusack Returns to Hollywood Spotlight at Academy Museum Gala
Actress Joan Cusack made a rare red carpet appearance alongside her husband, Richard Burke, at the annual Academy Museum Gala, marking a continued step back into the public eye after a hiatus.
Joan Cusack graced the red carpet at the annual Academy Museum Gala alongside her husband, Richard Burke, in a notable return to the Hollywood spotlight. The 64-year-old actress, who previously stepped away from acting to open a Midwest gift store and focus on raising her children in Chicago, has been gradually re-emerging in public events.
Cusack and Burke, who married in 1996, presented a coordinated black-tie appearance for the event. The actress wore a sequin-covered dress with an emerald green clutch, while her husband, a retired attorney and corporate executive, opted for a classic tuxedo. This appearance follows her first public event in 11 years earlier this year, coinciding with the premiere of "Toy Story 5," in which she reprised her voice role as Jessie.
Reflecting on her past departure from Hollywood, Cusack told People that her priority was raising her children in Chicago. She described the red carpet environment as unfamiliar, noting her preference for a less public lifestyle. "It's just not what I do. I don't even dress up that much," she stated, adding that she found the traditional Hollywood atmosphere and sunny weather less appealing than her Midwestern life.
The Academy Museum Gala honored Oscar winner Charlize Theron with the Icon Award, actor Colman Domingo with the Vantage Award, and director John Carpenter with the Luminary Award. The event also featured a performance by Taylor Swift, who contributed the song "I Knew It, I Knew You" to "Toy Story 5."
